Harassment and the workplace

Harassment is defined as “unwanted conduct of a sexual nature” that has the purpose or effect of violating dignity or “creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment”

For companies in the UK, the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 came into effect on 26 October 2024, introducing a legal duty for employers to proactively take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment.

An 8-step guide on how businesses can fulfil their duty to provent sexual harrassment in the workplace has been produced by the Equality and Human Right Commission.

 

What are Micro-Aggressions?

Micro-aggressions are statements, behaviours, language or actions regarded as likely to make an individual or group feel exlcuded, marginalized and in some cases, harrassed.

 

Micro-invalidations are similar, but are comments and actions meant to undermine a person, or groups, views or standing.
